Bose L1 Compact

October 21, 2015

Well for some of us getting older may mean not only are we smarter but we don’t want to carry around extrat stuff, in regard to gear stuff that’s heavy.  I love the sound of my QSC speakers and some other systems, even the Bose L1 is great.  However for some smaller performances the QSC or Bose L1 may be overkill.  I mean if your doing a house party or cocktail hr gig for 75-125 there has to be somthing smaller and lighter.  Good news is there is it’s the Bose L1 Compact.

I recently did a house party with my QSC K10 speakers and was tired when I left and thought there has to be a quicker way to do these gigs.  After talking with my wife and a few others my wife decided to order a Bose L1 Compact for me.  I always though the Bose L1 Compact was kind of a toy or gimic system.  Well it’s not.  I was able to do a wedding with two guitars, a synth, and violin for 175 people.  We used the QSC TouchMix 8 as our mixer.  The size I think fools most of us and the joke is on us not Bose.  There are six small speakers in the line array and then a 8in speaker in the base acting as a bass driver.  The system will fill a room very nicely and with playing classical, flamenco, bossa nova style this system is great.  I’ve talked with another guitarist who uses two L1 compacts as his PA system and he belives you can use two for up to 400 people.  I think if your lookin for a system to help your guitar sound the way it sounds and you want a light 29lbs total then the Bose L1 Compact may just be your answer.

D’Addarío Pro•Arté Composite Core•EJ25C

October 9, 2015

Just put a set of D’Addarío Pro•Arté Composite Core•EJ25C after having LaBella Hard Flamenco (Black Trebles).   I liked the tone of the LaBella but the D string started to fray and it was time to take the strings off.  They seemed to lose there snap too after a week and became dull and flat.  During the time they were one they needed constant tunning/ intonation.  The DAddario strings have a bit more tension 2lbs.  I have to say I think I just like the consistency of D’Addario and always come back to them. I’ve been using them since 1982. I’ve been using EJ45C for as long as I can remember but I really like the EJ25C

Pedalboard Update 10/18/15

October 9, 2015

So the last few months I’ve redone my live setup to accommodate a few systems.  I like to use a mic but when I can’t I need to use a pick-up I now use 4 different ones depending on the gig and need.  On my Zofia I have the LR Baggs Dual Source, on DeVoe Negra the Kromona NG-1 and DPA4099, DeVoe Blanca RMC w Poly Drive II, and on Cordoba F7 Paco the Fishman Presus Blend.  All of thes go into the Grace Felix.  The Zofia and F7 Paco at times are used with the Line 6 G30 Wirless.  So the effects loop is a Nenunaber Wet v.2 to DigiTech Jam Man to BBE Sonic Stomp back to Felix.   I should be adding delay in the near future as well. This set up allows me to play with any of my guitars and sound great.   It’s all mounted on the Pedaltrain FLY.   From the board I either go to my QSC TouchMix8 w QSC K10’s  or Bose L1 Compact

Kremona NG-1 Pickup

For a non invasive way to amplify your nylon string guitar the Kremona NG-1 Pickup may be a solution.  I use it with my DPA 4099G and have good results.

G 7th Performance 2 Classical Guitar Capo Silver

October 7, 2015

I wanted to try this new capo I’ve seen called “G 7th Performance 2 Classical Guitar Capo Silver”  I’ve been using one (a capo) more the last few months and thought I would try it.

It’s a very well constructed capo that only needs one hand to use it.  It dose cost more than some of the other capos out there.  I’ve been using the NS DAddario Capo for years.

The NS Capo is lighter but I have to say the G7th is easier to use and move with one hand.  I also think it applies the tension more like a natural bar (on a bared freet cord) than the NS Capo.  So far I like it.  It is also a bit longer than the NS.

GoPro Capo Mount

October 7, 2015

Go Pro Capo Mount. I did not like the camera wobbling around so I mounted a Go Pro Camera Mount onto an old capo using double sided tape (3M) easy mount on neck no scratches and no wobble video.

Though this has not much to do with sounding great live when you are capturing video of the performance this makes a nice easy attachment as you can attach to the neck of your guitar and capture video of your hands playing as well as yourself those in the audience and other musicians next to you. I think that this attachment works better than the go Pro flexible arm that seems to produce a wobble when capturing video
