Pedal Boards

September 7, 2017

Some folks have asked about my pedalboard and what I use.

I basically have 3 systems each has thir purpose.  They are as follows.

#1 the most.  Its main component is the Grace Design AliX that dose the Gain, EQ, Bost, Effects loop, DI out to get the signal I use s Saturn Works A/B Switcher one signal is wireless A and the other is s cable B into a one line out. This goes to the Grace AliX I do the Gain structure hear and eq the lows and tame 110Hz on High I give 1-2db bost.   I run a tuner the DÁDDARÍO pedal tuner from line out. My effects loop has the KoKKo Space Reverb and Digitech Jam Man Solo XT Looper.  I use this on my 3 giging guitars the Andy Culpepper Blanca with Lr Baggs Dual Source,  JDZ Blanca with LR Baggs and a Cordoba GKSL with Fishman Dual Source.

**Update** 9/7/17

I wanted to have the Boss AD-2 for gigs without a Pedalboard and to use with Behringer Europort MPA40BT.  So I put the Fishman Aura Nylon on.

#2 Grace BiX to a KoKKo Reverb and a TC Electronic Ditto Looper.  Smaller board and less control but great sound.  Easier to travel with.  I do at time move the Line 6 Wirless over to this pedal board too.  I use this on my 3 giging guitars the Andy Culpepper Blanca with Lr Baggs Dual Source, JDZ Blanca with LR Baggs and a Cordoba
#3 Boss AD-2 Pedal I use it for locations where there’s not easy access to AC power and for smaller events like weddings, cocktail hour on the beach.   I generally use the pedal with the Behringer Europort MPA40BT battery powered PA speaker.  Generally the Cordoba GKSL is the guitar I use.

#4 Boss AD-10 When the new AD-10 becomes available I will try the new digital Preamp out.

Phil Jones AC 150 Cub w LR Baggs Dual Source

October 18, 2016

To hear the LR Baggs Pickup on a Jorge de Zofia Flamenco Blanca click JDZ & LR Baggs Dual Source.  What was used was a Jorge de Zofia Ceader Blanca guitar with a LR Baggs Dual Source Pickup system (Element & Mic) to a Grace Design AliX Preamp then a Strymon blueSky Reverb and Digitech JamMan Solo XT loop pedal in the effects loop.  XLR out from AliX to a Phil Jones AC 150 Air Pulse acoustic amp.

More mic please (in LR Baggs Dual Source)

If you have the LR Baggs Dual Source and your pickup UST is hotter than the mic try bringing the gain down. I moved the pickup gain switch to (low gain) and now I have a stronger mic signal in my mono out. The Grace Design AliX tames the low so no feedback and just a bit of boost on treble and my guitar the JDZ Negra sounds like the guitar just louder with no piezo pickup tone.

New Grace Design AliX pedalboard setup

July 1, 2016

New Pedalboard Layout. One of the best things about Grace Designs AliX is that there’s enough power to power all these pedals and wirless receiver. No messy power supply or extra cables. I run this direct into my mixer, Bose L1 Compact or Bose L1II wB2 sub & ToneMatch mixer, or a powered speaker like QSC K8. Thanks Eben Grace and Team at Grace AliX ROCKS! The board is: Grace AliX, input from Line 6 Relay G30- AliX, from efx loop (TC Electronic HOF Mini-DigiTech JamMan Solo XT w FS3X Switch) back to AliX and out via DI in AliX. All pedals are powered from AliX. The pedal board is the Pedaltrain Metro 20.

Grace Design Alex

June 30, 2016

I have been looking to receiving the Grace Designs Alex preamp for some time it is now on its way to being delivered and I should be receiving it tomorrow.  It is a single channel preamp and I will be using it as a preamp for my LR Baggs dual source pick up.  I did have the opportunity to test out this preamp a great designs headquarters earlier this year in February.  I was so impressed with it that I asked to please be put on the preorder list and Eben Grace ever so kindly obliged me.  I’m looking for to receiving it.  I will post my review and sound samples later this week or next.  You can visit Grace Designs on the web at http://www.gracedesign.com

My Review 8/5/16

I wanted to wait a few weeks and do some gigs before I said anything. Let me say right from the start that I have been a fan of Grace Design from their preamps and recently Felix and now AliX. If I have a gig and I’m going to amplify with a pickup on my guitar, I won’t leave home with out the AliX. My flamenco guitars are equipped with the LR Baggs Dual source, UST Element and mic blend. I can adjust my bass so I have no low end feedback. Tame and boost my mid frequency (love the fully parametric eq) and I can pull my treble or boost to the liking of my ears and what the room needs. The elegance of the design just oozes pure beauty and grace with roadworthy strength. I waited for the AliX and put off buying other preamps. I wanted a small single Chanel preamp. I’m so glad I waited. Everyone who has heard this magic box is blown away with the clarity and precision of the tone sculpting. One of the best things is you a clearly defined tone. There is no loss of tone when you use the eq. And all of the knobs are functional. I have used gear where I can’t hear anything change when I move the knobs. The High Pass Filter allows for taming the bass in any situation. The preamp is so smooth and silky in the tone that is produced. Another one of the super cool things the design team did. and I think it’s a first, is they put an extra jack that allows you to power your pedals without wall warts or another power supply. I am able to power my Line 6G30, Strymon blueSky, and Digitech Jam Man, all from AliX. I just think this shows how the team at Grace is not just making a box with knobs but actually thinks what do musicians need their gear to do to make life easier and more musical. Then there’s the nice effects loop that is a TRS. For me all my gear mounts onto a pedaltrain pedalboard. When I get to the gig I just plug in my power and XLR out and I’m good to go. The boost switch is great for solos or when you need more this one does not just go to 11 it goes up to 10db of boost from where you are. I have used the AliX with my Bose Compact, Bose L1II w B2 sub, QSC Speakers, and House PA systems including TubroSound, JBL, QSC, Mackie and every time my gear sounds great, and I get complements, tips, and rebookings. If you are serious about your tone on your instrument and want to learn how to make it sound it’s best, then as far as your preamp search goes, look no further, it’s here, Grace Design. Sweetwater took care of the transaction and got the AliX to me. Thanks Grace Design & Sweetwater
