Godin Grand Concert SA

June 29, 2018

I have been using Godin Guitars on and off in the past but recently wanted a very solid robust traveling giging guitar that was not so fragile. I do over 150+gigs a year and sometime need to travel and play in areas that are not always safe for instruments.

I do have excellent Flamenco guitars by Luthier Lester Devoe & Andy Culpepper. however some gigs just won’t do by a mic alone or be safe. Ahh to the point. The Godin Grand Concert is just right when you need to amplify on stage w/o feedback and w/o lots of time to set up. I can get in and out for a wedding in 10min with a Pedalboard & Roland GR 55 or GR 20 guitar synth. So the transport and set up is very easy. When I set up I generally use a wireless system to run the RMC pickups to a Fishman Aura 16 (Godin Multiac SA Image”s) then to a Grace AliX for fine eq, Boss RV-500 for Reverb, Digitech Jam Man for Looper and out to a QSC TouchMix 8 Mixer or straight to EV

Evolve 50 or 2 Bose S1 Pro”s. That”s the set up.

The tone is wonderful. Once you understand how to use the onboard eq treble, mid, bass (cut, flat or bost) you dial in your tone and your pretty good to go. Add the Fishman Aura if you want the mic air in your sound. Playability is just fun/ effortless and feels great. It”s very fast on the fretboard. I was not sure if I would like the radius or Richlite fretboard but I really like both. I do use just the RMC pickup signal out and walk around wirelessly and come back to my area and will hook up the 13pin Roland cable to hook up to the GR Synth. The guitar tracks very well and I have played live with no glitches. I”ve played a few gigs out on only the Godin even though I had a back up. I”m really enjoying the new Godin Grand Concert SA. Bottom line is my clients and I like the sound of this guitar and they rehire me and bring me back for future events. It is worth getting a wider and padded strap if you play more than a few minutes.

QSC TouchMix 8

January 6, 2018

Just received my TouchMix 8 and think it’s fantastic. Mic Pre’s are great, eq so customizable and precise, reverb lush and warm. Using this on Flamenco Guitars with Pickup, Internal Mic and External Mic DPA 4099. Then run to the speakers.

Pedal Boards

September 7, 2017

Some folks have asked about my pedalboard and what I use.

I basically have 3 systems each has thir purpose.  They are as follows.

#1 the most.  Its main component is the Grace Design AliX that dose the Gain, EQ, Bost, Effects loop, DI out to get the signal I use s Saturn Works A/B Switcher one signal is wireless A and the other is s cable B into a one line out. This goes to the Grace AliX I do the Gain structure hear and eq the lows and tame 110Hz on High I give 1-2db bost.   I run a tuner the DÁDDARÍO pedal tuner from line out. My effects loop has the KoKKo Space Reverb and Digitech Jam Man Solo XT Looper.  I use this on my 3 giging guitars the Andy Culpepper Blanca with Lr Baggs Dual Source,  JDZ Blanca with LR Baggs and a Cordoba GKSL with Fishman Dual Source.

**Update** 9/7/17

I wanted to have the Boss AD-2 for gigs without a Pedalboard and to use with Behringer Europort MPA40BT.  So I put the Fishman Aura Nylon on.

#2 Grace BiX to a KoKKo Reverb and a TC Electronic Ditto Looper.  Smaller board and less control but great sound.  Easier to travel with.  I do at time move the Line 6 Wirless over to this pedal board too.  I use this on my 3 giging guitars the Andy Culpepper Blanca with Lr Baggs Dual Source, JDZ Blanca with LR Baggs and a Cordoba
#3 Boss AD-2 Pedal I use it for locations where there’s not easy access to AC power and for smaller events like weddings, cocktail hour on the beach.   I generally use the pedal with the Behringer Europort MPA40BT battery powered PA speaker.  Generally the Cordoba GKSL is the guitar I use.

#4 Boss AD-10 When the new AD-10 becomes available I will try the new digital Preamp out.

Gig Rig JDZ & Pedal Board

November 9, 2015

Updated “Gig Rig” all starts with a custom hand made Flamenco Cedar Blanca made by Jorge de Zofia of Palm Beach FL. I use D’Addarío EJ45 or EJ45C and EJ25C.  It’s outfitted with a L.R. Baggs Dual Souce Pickup System (Element & Mic) to a Line 6 Relay 30.  Then it’s all Eq’ed in the Grace Designs FELIX preamp.  (At times I also use the DPA 4099 G mic) on all my guitars. In the effects loop I have a Strymon Big Sky, to a DigiTech Jam Man Solo XT with a FS3X foot switch, to a BBE Sonic Stomp back to Felix. The pedals are mounted to the Pedaltrain Fly board.  I use the Bose L1 Compact or QSC TouchMix 8 and QSC K10’s.

Line 6 Relay G30

August 13, 2015

I have been using my Line 6 Relay 30 for over a year.  I purchased it at Sweetwater to use with my Flamenco Guitars.  At this time I’m using it with my JDZ guitar outfitted with the LR Baggs Dual Source and Córdoba F7 Paco with a Fishnan Presus Blend.  Both are a two source a UST and Mic that are blended.  With the Line 6 I can be free of the wires and walk around.  I get a great sound and pick up the percussive techniques in the Flamenco style especially the glopes.   I use the G30 with a Grace Felix Preamp or direct to a QSC Touch Mix 8.  It’s a great inexpensive system. 😎
