Summer Gear Update using 500 Series Gear

June 28, 2021

This summer I’ve started using some new gear in new ways that been producing very good results. Both my Córdoba 45 FP and Godin Multiac Grand Concert Delux have LR Baggs Lyric Mic mic pickups in them. The Godin also has RMC Gold Hex saddle pickup in it. For a more natural and mic’ed sound I’ve incorporated 500 series gear. This winter and spring I’ve been completely enamored and in love with the Rupert Neve sound especially on the Universal Audio platform and in Luna. I wanted to incorporate that sound into my live performances so I started looking at how could I bring a Neve preamp with the functionality that I need to create the sound that I’m hearing in the studio but live? For me the solution was the Rupert Neve designs RNDI to a 511 mic preamp that has a variable high pass filter (I generally have it set between 100 and 160hz) I also use the silk texture and run that about at 75%. I’m also using the Radial Engineering EXTC Interface that allows me to go from “The EXTC-500 takes the line level balanced output of your recording interface and converts it so an instrument level high-Z output optimized for guitar effects pedals, so you can Reamp any track through your pedalboard with ease. Once you’ve run the signal through your pedals, connect the output back into the EXTC and it will boost it up to a balanced line level so you can connect directly to the input of your recording interface.” (Radial Engineering web page) so I can use my guitar pedals affects and Looper and then send it back to a mic level. It’s housed in the Radial Engineering 500 Series Workhorse 3 Slot Cube. I then run it to either my EV Evolve 30M or QSC CP8 Speakers. So I’m using a hybrid set up.

Travel Pedalboard & Speaker

February 25, 2019

For quick in and out gigs and playing background music in restaurants and such I have a nice quick easy set up. Only the speaker and Blue tooth Bose Receiver need ac they are QSC CP 8 and Bose Bluetooth receiver.

The pedalboard and Wireless do not need ac they run on rechargeable batteries. The paddleboard is powered by the pedal train Volto 2 system, and the Sennheiser XSW instrument transmitter and receiver or rechargeable via USB type three cables.

The Pedalboard Settings to QSC CP 8 speaker.

Córdoba 45FP w/ L.R. Baggs Lyric Classical

September 30, 2018

So as the years have gone by and I have some real experience under my fingers I enjoy a easy load in and quick set up. I also don’t want to take my prized hand made guitars such as my 2008 Devoe or 2017 Culpepper Flamenco guitars out at times. Sometimes it hot sunny and humid outside too. Then there’s the tight under the air conditioning vent type gigs. So I like to roll in with one trip from car to stage of performance area. I want a reliable gig worthy day in and out flamenco travel guitar, internal pickup system, mixer, pedals & wireless and speaker or speakers. What I’ve landed on is the Córdoba 45FP with L.R. Baggs Lyric Classical mic.

From the output of the L.R. Baggs Lyric Classical I go to the L.R. Baggs Align Series with two TC Electronic pedals the “Spark & Ditto” theres also a Line 6 G30 Wireless Receiver underneath the pedalboard.

or Direct to the Bose T4S Mixer

From the pedalboard or Bose T4S the speakers are either the Bose S1 Pro Speakers or EV Evolve 50.

I also like to go direct to the EV Evolve 50 direct or from Bose T4S Mixer.

L.R. Baggs Venue DI & Lyric (Classical)

October 23, 2014

I have for years been looking for that usable tone live that excites me as well as the audience, I have found that sound that inspires me to “Just Play” and push the limits. The new gear that is helping so much is the L.R. Lr Baggs Lyric (Classical) and LR Baggs Venue DI. On my Córdoba 45FP and Bose L1S system the sound is just amazing.

Cordoba 45FP with L.R. Baggs Lyric pickup (Yes)

October 19, 2014

I was very pleasantly surprised by the sound of this fantastic pick up (L.R. Baggs Lyric). When placed and tuned properly it truly depicts a true sound as a microphone would of a nylon string guitar in my case in Córdoba 45FP, the glops and taps sound good too. (Gryphon Stringed Instruments in Palo Alto (650) 493-2131 211 Lambert Ave Palo Alto, CA 94306) has always treated me wonderfully. This morning I was greeted by none other then Frank Ford then James Hingston who did a fantastic install as well as explaining to me the benefits of this pick up. As I got back to Fresno by 3:30pm I was able to try the pick up with my system and it sounds fantastic looking forward to my 7 o’clock start time this evening. Since my return back east I have been able to try the Lyric with my home studio set up Pro Tools 11 on Mac Pro and Dig 002 Rack, awesome results and then to my Bose L1S with Tone Match mixer are fantastic, I also attached my pedalboard and line 6 Wirless with great results.
